Eco Roots Foundation is an NGO founded by Mr. Rakesh Khatri, popularly known as the Nest Man of India and we have been working on its mission with a profound commitment to environmental conservation and community well-being. Our impact on the community is far-reaching, as we champion various programs aimed at ecological awareness, afforestation, waste management, and rural development.

Based in Delhi, but working pan India, we have not only raised environmental consciousness but has also empowered local communities by providing livelihood opportunities and promoting eco-friendly practices. Our major focus is to interact with the younger generation like school and college students along with corporate employees inciting thought and action towards the environmental and ecosystem conservation considering their influence.  Read More 

Our Founder & Nest Man of India

Shri Rakesh Khatri

A documentary filmmaker by profession and an environmentalist at heart switched to Environment Conservation full time in 2008 committing himself to it particularly in a pursuit to find a solution to the dwindling population of sparrows, living around human population. After multiple innovations and experimentations, he succeeded in creating a nest out of bamboo, cloth, jute, cotton among other thing which have an adoption rate of over 75%. As a result of this, the population of sparrows which was on a steep decline in 2008 is currently at a comfortable figure. In addition to this, he has also been driving multiple innovative projects supported by different corporates and institutions particularly aimed at invoking the thought and action towards environment, bio-diversity and ecosystem conservation and community development.
Being the founder, he is the force behind the vision and programs of Eco Roots Foundation.

Jal Sparsh – Waste to Wealth (Water Hyacinth to Marketable Products) Scaled up to 5 states reaching 100 villages and 2000 women 

Considering the huge success of the pilot project implemented in 7 villages in District Gautambuddha Nagar, SIDBI has awarded us with the implementation of scaled up Jal Sparsh in 5 states namely Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam and Bihar with 100 villages and 2000 women beneficiaries including 20% tribal beneficiaries. The project aims to create a regular income of Rs. 4000 per month per beneficiary and empower them against 7 SDG goals aims to make 20 different products selling nationally and internationally.  

Rakesh ji invited to conduct Nest Making Workshop with

HSBC Gurugram Office Senior Leadership at TERI

In November 2023, Rakesh ji was invited by The Energy & Resource Institute (TERI) to conduct a Nest Making Workshop with the Senior Leadership of HSBC Gurugram. It was a very impactful and interactive workshop for the attendees. They also got to know about our other programs and particularly about the Tetrapak Nests and the Hand Painted Nests. Along with, they were also introduced to the Water Hyacinth products and how they are promoting sustainable living and are being marketed under the brand name – Jal Sparsh.
